What is Zcash

The cryptocurrency Zcash was created in 2016 with the original code base of Bitcoin. But with a more privacy-based structure. Because the Bitcoin protocol works with an open ledger, everyone can see what address sends what. The developers of Zcash however tried to solve this with some extra privacy features. These features created 4 different types of transactions on the chain:

Public: A public transaction works basically the same as with Bitcoin, where people can see the sending and receiving end of the transaction on-chain.
Shielding: With a shielding transaction, others can not see the receiving end of the transaction.
Defending: With a defending transaction, others can not see the sender of the transaction.
Private: With this type of transaction, no one can see either side of the transaction, making it completely anonymous.

Most people buy Zcash on a Zcash exchange and then send it to a Zcash wallet app. However, this causes a bit of a problem as users will have to go through KYC to get it.
